7 Tips for Making Small Spaces Feel Bigger

Isla Del Sol’s luxury condo units are between 1,300 and 1,440 square feet. These surprisingly spacious areas will still be an adjustment if you are used to living in a home. Small areas don’t have to be overcrowded with your furniture and other items, though.  The following tip and tricks can help you make the most of your small spaces:

1. Leave Space

Having your furniture flush against the wall will not make the room feel bigger. If you leave space between furniture, it will give the appearance of more space. Whether it's angling the bed or moving the sofa father away from the wall, it can help give the space more room. If you want to utilize the space between the wall and couch, try placing a small skinny table between the two and use it for more storage space.

2. Be Mindful of Color

Darker colors will make the room appear smaller. Lighter colors, such as white, cream, pale gray and blues, will keep the area lighter and more open.  Lighter colored floors will also help create the sense of more space, so keep area rugs neutral colors.

3. Draw the Eyes Up

Having a pop of color on the ceilings is a good way to make your room seem taller. Anything that draws the eye up will help with creating depth. If you do not want to color your ceilings, having a nice design or even a beautiful chandelier will help.

4. Multiuse Pieces

Furniture that has more than one use is a simple way to get the most out of any room. Ottomans with built-in storage space are great for hiding away blankets or other items that could clutter a room.

5. Leave Windows Bare

Drapes can make a room seem dark and confined. More light gives a room depth. Plus, if you leave your windows bare you will be able to see the beautiful views of the lake. If you are worried about privacy, sheet white drapes will cover your windows without the need of heavy curtains.

6. Use Stripes

Stripes will help make a room appear longer. Position the stripes to go the length of the wall that is the longest for the best results.

7. Get Organized

Arrange the items on your bookshelf and tables by height and color. This will give your un-organized mess some structure. Having your items intentionally arranged will make the room more streamlined. This trick works for books or essentially anything that is visible in your home.

4 Things to Consider When Buying a Second Home

Purchasing a second home is a decision that will stay with you for a long time. Therefore, it's important to go over the details with care. There are many things to consider when buying a second home at Lake of the Ozarks, some of which can go unnoticed to potential buyers. The Lake's best waterfront condo complex has put together a list of things to consider when purchasing your second home.

Location

Where do you want to live when you're not at home? Are you looking at getting away from the cold season for a few months? Perhaps you should think about a location that features warm summers and an entertaining atmosphere. If you're just looking for a weekend getaway, your second home could be as close as a day's drive, which is far enough away for relaxation, but close enough for quick returns.

Community

The surrounding community is also important to a second home buyer. Is the community booming economically? Are there community groups and a strong small business atmosphere? These are signs of a thriving community, and an economy that should continue to grow. Go and visit possible second home communities and speak with local homeowners and businesses. They can give you their opinions and tell you everything you want to know about the community you're looking to invest your time and money in.

Investment

A second home is more than just a dwelling, it's an important investment opportunity as well. The housing market has been steadily increasing in value for years. This trend is expected to continue, so now is the perfect time to buy. A second home should continue to increase in value over time, which means the longer you own it, the more it's going to be worth if you decide to sell it. There's always an opportunity you could rent your second home while you are living at your primary residence, providing you with some added income to help offset your mortgage.

Retirement

When it's finally time to retire, a second home can provide the perfect seasonal living opportunity. Choose a home in a location that provides a wide assortment of retirement amenities, such as golf courses, premier dining, and other recreational options, to ensure you never have a dull moment. With a second home, you can stay as long as you'd like, and return to your other residence only when you feel the need. It's possible the second home could become your primary residence!

Isla Del Sol: Your Home Away From Home

Buying a second home is a big investment and is a decision that should take careful consideration. The Lake of the Ozarks' best condominium complex rests perfectly in the main channel of the Lake. The community is one of the most giving and accepting in Missouri, with dozens of charity groups and community organizations to get involved with. Nominated as the nation's "Best Recreational Lake", you're sure to find plenty to do while you're here. Schedule a viewing of the Lake of the Ozarks' most luxurious condo complex and experience the best that waterfront living has to offer!
