9 Fun Games To Play In The Pool

When the sun comes out and the weather is hot, hanging out in the pool is the best relief there is from the heat.  Our residents at the best luxury condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks have a fabulous lakeside pool with fountains to enjoy all Summer long.  Simply swimming and laying out on the poolside sun deck are plenty of fun on their own, but here are 9 lively games to play at the pool when you want to have a little extra fun.

1. Marco Polo
This one is probably not new to you.  It's a classic.  One person in the pool is "It" and closes their eyes.  Their eyes must stay closed until they tag one of the players.  When It yells out "Marco," all of the players must answer with "Polo."  This is how It knows where to go to tag someone.  Players MUST answer every time, and swimming underwater is allowed.  The person tagged is the next It.

2. Color Game
This time, It stands on the edge of the pool with their back to the players in the water.  All players are lined up along one wall, thinking of a color.  It calls out names of colors, and if a player's color is called, they must try to quietly and/or quickly get to the other side of the pool before being tagged.  It can only turn around when they hear a player leave the wall.  If It turns and no one has moved yet, It must turn back around and take one step further away from the pool.  The next It is the player that gets tagged.

3. Submarine Race
This is simply an underwater swimming race.  Each player is a "submarine," and when someone yells go, they race to a predetermined finish line by swimming under the surface of the water.

4. Treasure Hunt
This can be done with sinkable pool toys or actual coins as the "treasure."  All of the items are tossed into different areas of the pool.  When someone yells go, players dive to collect the most treasure.

5. Pool Dodgeball
Everyone divides into two teams and takes a side of the pool.  You can play with as many beach balls as you like.  Water balls can be used too, but they can hurt a little if full of water and thrown hard.  If a ball hits you, you are out and must leave the water.  You can only avoid being hit by dunking under water.  The last player to remain in the water wins the game for their team.

6. Duck Push
Each player gets a rubber ducky and lines up.  When go is yelled, they must get their duck to the other side of the pool without using their hands, feet, or putting the duck in their mouth. Players may blow the duck, use their foreheads, splash at it... whatever works.  The first to get their duck to the finish line wins.

7. Octopus Tag
The person designated as It stands in the middle of the pool.  They have only a specific area that they are allowed to move about in.  Players must go from wall to wall through It's area without being tagged.  Once they are tagged, they join hands with It, forming an "octopus." Every time someone is tagged, they join hands with the group until only two players are left. The first of these last two to get tagged is the new It.

8. Big Wave
For this game, you will divide into two teams.  A beach ball is placed in the center of the pool.  At go, both teams do whatever they can to get the ball through the opposite team's goal (or far wall) without touching it.  They can shoot it with water guns or make waves to get the ball moving.  Be warned, you WILL get splashed in this game!

9. Sponge Relay
This game is actually played out of the water, but near a pool is the best place because it is a very wet game.  Everyone is evenly divided into teams.  Each team has a bucket full of water at the front of their line, and an empty bucket at the end of the raceway.  Using a sponge, each team must take water from their bucket, race to the empty bucket, squeeze the water into it, and then race back to hand the sponge to the next player.  The first team to fill to a marked line on the far bucket wins.

The pool at Isla Del Sol

Hopefully that is enough pool fun to keep you busy for lots of enjoyable days in the water. Isla Del Sol residents have access not only to the amazing pool and sun deck, but a deck overlooking all of it, plus the beautiful lake all the way around our private island.  If you would like to talk to someone about living in the best waterfront condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks, contact us at 573-552-8418 or visit our website to request more information.

Great Gift Ideas For Father's Day

Father's Day falls on June 21 this year, so if you haven't started thinking about it yet, it's time.  You have just over a week to decide how you are going to celebrate Dad this year. Here are a few fun gift ideas from your friends at Isla Del Sol luxury condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks.

Sporty Dad

This can mean that he loves playing sports, loves watching sports, or maybe even both.

  • a jersey from his favorite team
  • an indoor version of his favorite sport:  a basketball goal above the door or trash can, a mini putting green,...
  • activity tracker wristband (Fitbit)
  • goofy golf club covers
  • tickets to a game
  • a remote that makes it easy for him to flip between games
  • a portable grill for packing up to tailgate

King of the Grill Dad

Even if your dad doesn't cook much in the kitchen, he may be the only one that touches the grill.  For some reason, add fire and a guy is intrigued.

  • cookbook of new grilling ideas
  • a funny apron to wear when he's in grill-mode
  • fancy set of grilling tools
  • a variety of different types of BBQ sauces he has never tried
  • a variety of dry meat rubs from different regions
  • a BBQ branding iron (yes, they make those!)

Outdoor Dad

This is the father that loves to head outside and get away from modern living and technology.  He'll choose a tent in the woods over a hotel room any day.

  • personalized pocket knife or the ultimate "everything but the kitchen sink" Swiss army knife
  • binoculars
  • really nice pair of sunglasses
  • new camping chair or tent
  • waterproof phone case
  • fishing pole and loaded tacklebox
  • rolling cooler

Family Fun Dad

If you have the type of father that likes nothing more than a day with the family, these are some great ideas for activities to do together.

  • new board game
  • a variety of decks of cards with neat backs
  • an outdoor game like horseshoes or badminton
  • his favorite movie or a new one he's been wanting to see, along with popcorn & candy
  • #1 Dad coffee mug or t-shirt
  • surprise him with a family photo session

Car Crazy Dad

He's the one that has to point out every single cool car you pass on the street, or finds a way to work some type of mechanical talk into every conversation and turn it back to cars.

  • a subscription to car magazines
  • a replica of his dream car (unless of course, you can afford to get him the real thing!)
  • driving gloves so he can feel like a pro
  • a heated and/or cooling car seat cover
  • mini car vacuum
  • polish and wax kit
  • electronic tire gauge

There are all different types of dads out there, and the gift possibilities are endless.  You know your dad the best, but hopefully some of our ideas will jump-start your brain and get your creative, gift-giving juices flowing.

Remember, it doesn't always have to be something bought.  Spending time with your dad is the best gift that you can give him.  Some great examples for residents here at the Lake of the Ozarks waterfront condominiums of Isla Del Sol are hanging out by the pool, going for a walk or jog around the paths, taking out the boat from our dock, or just hanging out at the condo and having dinner together.  Whatever you end up doing, enjoy yourselves.  Happy Father's Day to each and every dad out there from Isla Del Sol.

Here is another free, outdoor, family-friendly event at the Osage Beach City Park taking place the day before both Father's Day and the first official day of Summer.  Beginning at 7 pm, the evening will include a comedian, a concert by the Travis Gibson Band, and fireworks at dusk.  There will also be several summer-themed giveaways.  Everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.  Everything will be taking place on Ball Field No. 3.  Parking is limited, and the road to the park will be closed at 4 pm, but shuttles will run from Osage Premium Outlets, Walmart, and the Home Depot.  In case of rain, fireworks will be shot off on Sunday evening instead.

How is that for choices?  All sorts of different things to do all month, and this is just the beginning of an event-filled Summer.  When you couple these with swimming, boating, shopping, dining out, and everything else that the Lake of the Ozarks has to offer, it's an amazing place to live.
