Decor Ideas to Bring Summer Into Your Home

Summertime is just about here, and with these warm breezy days, we want to take advantage of all the summer time we can get! While you'll likely be spending the majority of your time outdoors, it's still nice to bring some of that outdoorsy summer feel indoors. Isla Del Sol has some great ways for you to lighten the look of your home for warm-weather months with these breezy decor ideas.

ADD POPS OF COLOR

Replace your contemporary subtle paintings with some colorful art that pops. Place fresh flowers or vibrant colored accent pieces around your condo. Change out any dull or neutral colored throw pillows with fun colored and funky patterned ones.

BRING FURNITURE OUTDOORS

With the nicer warmer weather, you'll want to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Utilize your deck space as a secondary dining area, reading nook, or relaxation spot for those sunny beautiful days to come. You'll want to take full advantage of the time you have to spend outside, rain or shine.

PAINT YOUR FURNISHINGS

If you've got some older furnishings that are looking dull and lifeless, revamp them with a fresh coat of paint that enhances your summer fun theme. You can choose a couple of pieces to paint vibrant colors to stand out and be focal points, and tie in the look with some complimenting throw pillows.

INVITE LIGHT INTO THE ROOM

Make your home seem brighter and more inviting by improving the lighting. Change out the window treatments for lighter colored ones, and allow natural light into your home. Use lighter colored furnishings instead of darker colors. Upgrade your lighting fixtures and add some accent lighting.

ENJOY THE SCENTS OF SUMMER

For a continuous seasonal aesthetic in your home, switch out scents as the seasons change. Gingerbread and evergreen are great smells for winter months, but in the summer many people crave fresh scents, such as ocean breeze or cucumber-melon.

REARRANGE FOR A NEW VIEW

While a fireplace is a great focal point, consider rearranging your furniture away from it during the summer. Rather than huddling around the hearth, shift the focus of the room toward a beautiful window or French doors. Stow away heavy draperies and hang gossamer sheers that flow with the breezes.

FILL YOUR FIREPLACE

You won't be cozying up around the fireplace for another few months. For now, use your fireplace as a fun way to bring the summer indoors. Remove the fire logs and stage a vibrant planter in its place. Stack the pile of unused wood inside the fireplace to free up mantel space and create a cool rustic look. Decorate the mantel with fun summer-time decor.

Bring summer into your home with these great decor ideas. If you're really wanting to find a way to enjoy summer to the fullest, visit Isla Del Sol to see what true luxury living at the Lake of the Ozarks is all about! And if you're ready to live in Paradise all year round, contact us to learn more about buying options - we're the only island condo complex at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Incorporating Color Into Your Home Decor

Part of the thrill of buying a luxury condominium at the Lake of the Ozarks is planning out the remodel! There are so many ways you can show off your style and make your condo feel cozy and inviting. This week, Isla Del Sol has some great tips to help you add color to your home decor to best showcase your personality - check it out!

Go with Grays

Gray presents itself as the perfect backdrop to any style from classic to modern to contemporary. Gray's chameleon-like quality allows the color to appear either warm or cool and pair beautifully with all sorts of colors from pinks, blues, purples, and citrus pair delightfully with this new neutral. Plus, all furniture styles look well with it. With all shades from nearly white to nearly black, there’s a shade of grey certain to please everyone’s palate.

Use the 60-30-10 Rule

For the most balanced, appealing look in your decor, you should choose a three-color palette for decorating a room, and use the 60-30-10 rule. Decorate 60% of the room with the dominant color. Decorate 30% of the room with the secondary color. Use the remaining color as an accent in 10% of the space. You don't have to follow this exactly, so don't feel required to break out the calculator and measuring tape. Just follow the basic idea.

Contrast Warm and Cool

When dealing with warm and cool colors it's important to remember that no room should have just one. If you want your room to be cozy, use warm colors for the dominant scheme and add a few elements that incorporate cool colors (and vice versa). As with all elements of decorating it's important to have some balance and contrast.

Pick Colors from Furnishings

Consider the mood you want to set in the room you're decorating. Then, if you've got patterned upholstery, a colorful rug or large piece of artwork, pluck colors you like from the pattern that create the vibe you're trying to evoke. For a neutral wall paint color, look to the pattern's whites and beiges. If choosing a wall color from your artwork, go one or two shades lighter to ensure the art will pop. To add more dimension to your color scheme, incorporate different textures.

Use the Color Wheel

The color wheel is an essential decorating tool as long as you know how to use it. Going monochromatic with tone-on-tone color can result in a really sophisticated, edited look. Start with a color you really love and mix varying shades, from light to dark. A popular analogous color combination, and one we particularly love, is blue and green. Or you can choose two complementary colors creates an energizing, high-contrast color scheme. Feeling adventurous? A triad color scheme is made up of any three colors evenly spaced on the wheel.

With these 5 tips for incorporating color into your home decor, you'll be well on your way to creating a beautiful and personable design for your luxury waterfront condo at the Lake of the Ozarks! So break out the color wheel, visit your local home improvement store, and get geared up to make some colorful changes this summer at Isla Del Sol!
