Winter Fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks

There are many fun activities that you and your family can participate in at the Lake of the Ozarks, including fishing. Although the weather outside may be cold, the fishing is heating up! Lake of the Ozarks has some of the best fishing in the midwest, and winter is no exception. If you own a condo at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can enjoy some of the best fishing in the country, no matter the season.

What You Can Catch

Don't let the cold winter weather keep you away from some of the best winter fishing in the country. While you may think that the water temperatures in January or February are too frigid to catch fish, it is actually one of the best times of the year to catch a number of different fish, as well as some of the biggest fish in the lake. During these months you can find water temperatures averaging between the mid or upper 30s and the low to mid-40s.

Winter is an excellent time to fish for bass by slowly fishing jerkbaits off points or pea gravel banks. However, the months of January and February are unique because you can catch crappie on the same baits that are used to catch bass. The most popular lure to catch crappie and bass is a suspending jerkbaits. Big crappie will be schooled up during these winter months, so it is not uncommon to catch a limit of giant crappie on consecutive casts to a single spot.

How To Find Fish In The Winter

During the winter, most bass anglers will opt to fish the lower end of the lake where the water is clearer and usually warmer than in the other regions. Bass fishing in the Lake of the Ozarks during the winter months is less complex than in other months because it comes down to three baits, which are jerkbaits, jigs and the Alabama rig. However, the trick to a successful bass fishing trip during the winter months is figuring out where the fish are and slowing things down. With the water levels drawn down to winter pool, the main areas to target during these winter months are 45-degree channel banks, secondary points, bluff ends, and transition banks.

Your Fishing Condo at the Lake of the Ozarks

When you own a condo at the Lake of the Ozarks, you will always have the best place to stay during your fishing excursions. At Isla Del Sol, you are just steps away from your dock, so you will be out on the water catching bass and crappie within minutes. Isla Del Sol has a few gift ideas that your friends and family with condos at the Lake of the Ozarks will love. From personalized mugs and tumblers to handmade picture frames and coasters, the ideas are limitless when it comes to handmade gifts. Hobby and craft stores are sure to have something you can use to create a personalized gift that they will love. No matter what it is, a handmade will leave a unique impression and is sure to be appreciated.

2. Home Decor

Blankets, accent pillows and candles are all great gifts that will also help them get their condo cozy for the cold winter months. If you want to help create some ambiance, accent lighting like salt lamps can help make the room a bit warmer and fuller.

3. Gift Cards

Gift cards are a great way to help someone settle in or celebrate their new condo at the Lake of the Ozarks. A gift card to a home decor store can help them decorate while a gift card to a restaurant can help them celebrate their new investment. Do some research and find out what stores are near them and getting them a card to a local store or restaurant.

4. Help Organize

If your friend or family member has just moved into a condo, they may need some help getting organized. You can never have too much storage. Wicker and other types of baskets make great gift bags that can later be used to help store items in their new place. You can fill the basket with themed items, such as their favorite food or items for a spa day.

Merry Christmas From Isla Del Sol

Whether you are doing all your shopping last minute or you're just looking for that last little item, Isla Del Sol hopes these items help you. 5 Tips For Keeping Your Condo Safe While You're Away

The holidays are usually spent with friends or family, which means that you may be traveling if they're not coming to you. If you have a Lake of the Ozarks condo that you will be leaving empty for a few weeks this season, check out these tips you can do to keep it a bit secure while you're gone.

1. Use Automated Lights

Keeping the lights on are a great way to make it look like someone is home even when they're not. However, you don't want to keep the lights on 24/7 while you're away for a few reasons. First, your electric bill will go through the roof and second, having your house lit up through the night might be a bit suspicious. Instead, it might be a good idea to buy an auto-timed light switch. It's easy to plug in a couple lamps into different parts of your condo into an automatic light switch timer that will turn them on once it gets dark and off when you would normally go to bed. Just make sure that you find timers with a random setting so the lights don't turn on (or off) at the same time every day that you're gone.

2. Use A Friendly Neighbor

Hopefully, you have made a friend or two who live in the same building who you trust enough to tell about your plans to leave for a bit. Although at the Lake it is common for people to use their condos as vacation homes, however, there are also many people who live at the Lake year round. If someone who lives in your complex live there year round, ask if they would kindly watch your place for suspicious activity while you're gone. If you don't feel comfortable asking anyone in your complex. Get a friend or neighbor to stop by every once and awhile while you're away.

3. Install An Alarm

If condo security is important to you and you don't want to have to rely on a friendly neighbor or friend, then it may be in your best interest to install a security system. Although it may cost you to install and set up, it will be worth it knowing that your place is as secure as can be when no one is there. However, check-ups from friends and family are still a great way to go, but installing a security system will add that extra level of security that you are looking for while away from your condo.

4. Avoid Social Media

Although sharing your exciting plans with family and friends via social media is great, they may not be the only ones paying attention. Others in your network may be looking for information that can help them know when people are away for the holidays, leaving their homes vacant. Skip the details online until you get home. Plus, you want to be able to enjoy your vacation, so it may be better to spend it looking away from your phone.

5. Keep Valuables Out Of Sight

You may be wanting to keep your curtains completely shut to prevent people from peering into your home. However, if having your curtains completely shut for two or more weeks is uncharacteristic of you, then it could be a hint that you are not around. It is better to leave the curtains how you normally leave them and move expensive items, like jewelry or computers out of sight if they're visible from the window.

At Isla Del Sol, our residents' safety is at the top of mind. Because our luxury Lake of the Ozarks condos are located on the island once known as Hawaiian Island, it can only be accessed by the newly constructed roadway and kept safe by a security gate. Christmas Decorating Tips For Your Condo!

Now that Thanksgiving has passed, it is time to start focusing on Christmas! If you live in a Lake of the Ozarks condo, sometimes you have to be a bit creative when decorating for the holidays. There are many fun ways to decorate your condo at the Lake of the Ozarks for the holidays and still have plenty of room for all of your friends and family.

1. Christmas Trees

You don't need to have a 7-foot Christmas tree to make it feel like the holidays. A great way to save a little space while decorating is to be a little creative with the size of your tree. From small table side trees to trees made out of lights and hung on the wall, there are a lot of different things you can do to save space and still have it feel like the Christmas season.

2. Christmas Scents

An easy way to increase the holiday spirit in your condo is to make your home smell the like holidays. Add a few cinnamon sticks, four orange halves, one cup of fresh cranberries, two sprigs of rosemary to a large pot, cover with water and simmer. It won't take long for your home to start smelling like Christmas. If you want a longer lasting Christmas scent, you can also purchase potpourri and hide it in the corners of your home.

3. Window Ornaments

Garland and colorful, shiny ornaments hanging from the window are a creative, space-saving way to bring a little bit of the holidays into your home. When the sun is shining off the ornaments, it will have a beautiful reflection that dances around your condo.

4. Decorate Chairs

People need a place to sit, so why not have it be festive? Whether it is a holiday slip cover for your dining room table chairs or fun leg covers for your dining room table, decorating your chairs are a unique way to bring in the holiday spirit.

5. Use Your Walls

Avoid overcrowding your floor space and make use of your walls. Try hanging lights, images or other holiday decor on your walls. Such as before, a Christmas tree made out of lights and hung on your wall not only saves floor space, it's also a clever way to make your condo a little more festive. However, a Christmas tree made out of lights isn't the only way to make your walls festive. Hanging Christmas cards you received can also be a great way to show them off without cluttering your countertops.

6. Less is More

Instead of trying to make your condo look like a complete winter wonderland, focus your decor in one area. Although it may be a more simple look, this will create a more spacious and relaxing holiday look.

7. Don't Forget The Balcony

Don't forget the spacious outdoor balcony! Add a bit of holiday spirit outside by adding a small tree or outdoor lights to your balcony. If you use the same types of decor or color pallet, your balcony can feel like an extension of your interior.

8. Wreathes

Adding a wreath to your front door can make your guests feel extra welcome this season. It will also create flow from the outside of your condo to the inside. However, wreathes aren't just for your front door. Wreathes are very versitile. You can create smaller ones out of rosemary to place candles in, hang some on the back of dining room chairs or hang larger ones on your walls.

9. Spruce Up Doorways

Make transitions seemless by adding some decorations to doorways. Either drape garland or swag or hang ornaments and Christmas cards from the frames. This not only save space, it also adds a cozy look to your condo.

10. Add Color

Adding pops of color with accent pieces like pillows, vases or curtains is an easy way to bring in the holidays without overwhelming your space. If your base color scheme is neutral, then adding greens and reds into your space will be easy. In addition, if you have a neutral base, it will be easy to add pops of colors for other holidays like Halloween or Fourth of July.

Your Holiday Getaway!

With these tips, we hope that your Lake of the Ozarks condo can be a little bit more festive. When you own a condo at the Lake of the Ozarks, you will always have a place to spend the holidays. Isla Del Sol isn't jus the perfect second home location, it is also a great place for full-time lake living. Tips For Hosting Thanksgiving At Isla Del Sol

If you plan on hosting Thanksgiving at your Lake of the Ozarks condo, you may be wondering how you can transform your small space into a cozy, comfortable hosting space. Luckily, there are a few things you can do to maximize the area in your condo. Isla Del Sol offers five tips for hosting Thanksgiving in a condo at the Lake of the Ozarks.

1. Rearrange

Don't be afraid to rearrange furniture for the evening. It may be a good idea to swap the living and dining areas. Shift your living room furniture to the side, or use your spare room as storage for the time being to make room for the table. Having the table in the living space creates more room for people to enjoy a comfortable Thanksgiving meal. Although it doesn't make sense to have it there on a daily basis, it makes sense to move everything around to create more space a better flow.

2. Storage

Small kitchens can be one of the bigger challenges when it comes to hosting Thanksgiving, or any dinner party. So it comes in handy to be a bit creative when it comes to finding space. Sometimes, the packaging can take up more space than the item itself. For example, plastic tubs that fruit and veggies come in often take up a lot of space. After washing them, it may be a good idea to transfer them into a zip lock bag. In addition, use a cooler full of ice to keep your beverages cool to open up valuable fridge and counter space.

3. Buffet

Save some space on the table and have your side dishes set up in a buffet style. Leave a few of the dishes on the counter, stovetop or island and guests can come and go serving themselves as they please. In addition, it will mean there is less to clear away when you transition from dinner to dessert.

4. De-Clutter

When you host a big dinner in a small area, you need to make room for your guests. Clear away the knick-knacks and create space for your guests to place their drinks. Throw your outerwear in your room to make room for your guest's jackets in the entrance closet. If you keep your shoes near the entranceway, clear them away so your guests have room for their shoes.

5. Be Flexible!

Being flexible is one of the biggest things that you have to do while hosting in a smaller space. Focus on the mix, not the match. Be creative when decorating and planning. It's ok if your dinner isn't perfect. Being together with friends and family is the most important part of Thanksgiving.

Happy Thanksgiving From Isla Del Sol!

If you are hosting Thanksgiving at your Lake of the Ozarks condo, we hope you have an amazing time. Good times are always to be had when friends and family come together. If you are traveling, we hope you have safe travels. Happy Thanksgiving from Isla Del Sol condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks!
