5 Ways to Make the Most Out of Your Condo Space

Think of the interior space of a condo as an art gallery. If decorated effectively, it can be tasteful and elegant. With the most luxurious condos at Lake of the Ozarks, you can make your condo look and feel like a personal piece of art. From an open floor plan to the 360 degree view of the lake, Isla Del Sol Condominiums at Lake of the Ozarks has it all. Here are 5 ways to make the most out of your condo living space.

Proper Lighting

With the proper lighting, every room can be showcased. Having curtains that draw completely past the window frame exposes the room to lots of natural light. Mirrors on the wall can reflect this light without taking up extra space and increase the visual appeal of the interior.

Storage

There are dozens of places around the home to stow away unused things and cleaning supplies alike. Hanging cleaning supplies like the broom and mop up on the closet wall will allow for bigger items to sit on the ground, like seasonal decorations in a box, or hidden gifts for the holiday season. In the kitchen, hanging a spice rack on the inside of a cabinet will allow room for the wine cabinet you've always wanted but never had room for!

Furniture - Less is More

A cluttered floor plan just screams for a stubbed toe. Why not simplify this by selecting a few pieces of furniture rather than several smaller items? Instead of a guest bedroom with a twin bed and full size chest of drawers, you could get a queen sized bed and throw an extra closet bar in the closet to maximize hanging potential.

Open up the Bathroom

The bathroom is a great place to add a sense of open space. Instead of a clouded glass door for the shower, swap in a curved curtain. This will give off the impression that the bathroom is much bigger than it actually is. Additionally, add some floating shelves behind the toilet for towels and other bathroom accessories to clear up some counter space.

Floor to Ceiling Decor

When deciding to decorate a condo, it's easy to forget everything above eye level. Hanging curtains from the ceiling and running them centered over twice the length of the window will go a long way to changing the dynamic in the room. Hang a TV with a wall mount to eliminate the need for a stand and draw attention away from the ground and up into the wall.

Make the Space Yours

No matter which tips you decide on, the condo is never truly yours until you can walk in and recognize it as home. The best condos at Lake of the Ozarks are glad to offer a vast and open floor plan for you to decorate and furnish to your every desire. Enjoy the perfect view of the Lake in any room, or step out onto the covered terrace and see why these really are the best waterfront condos at the Lake of the Ozarks.

How the Ozarks got a Lake

Isla Del Sol Waterfront Condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks  is the only island condominium project in this area. To be considered an island, a piece of land must be completely surrounded by water and not large enough to be called a continent.  You probably knew that much already, but have you ever wondered how the Lake of the Ozarks got there in the first place, allowing us to build our private island escape in the middle of Missouri?

The lake was created by the construction of Bagnell Dam, which caused the Osage River to flood into surrounding valleys.  The Union Electric Company out of St. Louis, Missouri started construction in August, 1929.  Nearly two years later, in April, 1931, it was completed.  The lake reached it's spillway elevation a month later on May 20, 1931.

A few interesting facts about the building of the dam are:

  • Building Bagnell Dam was a $30 million dollar project.
  • It created 10,000 jobs, which employed 25,000 workers over the course of the project
  • Workman moved over 900 miles of fence, 32 cemetaries (2,850 graves), and the entire 500-person town of Linn Creek!!
  • During Construction the lake was called both "Osage Reservoir" and "Lake Osage."  It was officially named "Lake Benton" after former Senator Thomas Hart Benton, but it was so popularly referred to by it's location in the Ozarks that the name "Lake of the Ozarks" just stuck.

The Lake of the Ozarks is now the second largest man-made lake in Missouri. At the time of construction, it was the largest in the united states, and one of the largest in the world!

The Osage River, Niangua River, and numerous creeks and streams all contribute to the formation of the Lake of the Ozarks.  It holds over 600 billion gallons of water.  The Lake itself measure more than 90 miles in length, but has over 1,100 miles of shoreline in four different Missouri counties!

This is due to the serpentine shape of the lake, which has earned it the nickname of "The Magic Dragon."  It may take a little imagination to see the resemblance, but it's there.

A wonderful place to learn more about the history of both Bagnell Dam and the Lake of the Ozarks is at Willmore Lodge.  It is the home to the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce in addition to the Bagnell Dam History Museum, and hosts an absolutely gorgeous view of the lake.

You will find our luxury condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks  near what would be the base of the head/ top of the neck of the "Magic Dragon" here on Google maps off of Knox Road.  You can see beautiful panoramic views of the Lake of the Ozarks from any location on our island.  Visit us today and see just why our private island paradise is just the place to make your Lake of the Ozarks home.

Future shines bright for "Island of the Sun"!

The Lake of the Ozarks Business Journal wrote a wonderful article about Isla Del Sol Condominiums in the April 2015 edition.  Many thanks to Nancy Zoellner-Hogland and the Business Journal team for capturing a glimpse of the future for the best waterfront condos at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Future shines bright for ‘Island of the Sun’

By Nancy Zoellner-Hogland - Lake of the Ozarks Business Journal - April 2015
The causeway leading to Isla Del Sol Condominiums just might end up as the hottest spot to fish at Lake of the Ozarks. In late March, crews with Apperson Utility Contracting Company installed 12, 2-foot-by-8-foot concrete culverts that had one end stuffed with woody debris, at the base of the concrete causeway to act as fish caves. They also brought in 14, 40-to-50-foot-long trees and 18 tree stumps that were strategically placed and anchored along both sides of the base.

Apperson, who also built the new 570-foot long, 24-foot wide causeway that connects the island to the mainland, completed the causeway construction last November. However, crews had to wait until the winter drawdown to complete the fish habitat, which also features three, 8-foot culverts, 72 feet long, to provide for water transfer and allow fish movement. The habitat was built to assuage fears of local citizens who were concerned the causeway could harm the ecosystem and the “unique, underwater saddle” that spanned the distance between the island and the shore.

And as wonderful as life will be for the fish that take up residence in that new underwater habitat, it doesn’t compare to the luxury available to those who will live “above water.”
Known for years as “Hawaiian Island,” Isla Del Sol currently is home to three buildings housing 30 units each. When completed, Isla Del Sol, the only island development at Lake of the Ozarks, will include 180 units.

“Because the condominiums are all built right at the water’s edge around the perimeter of the island, every single condominium has an incredible view,” said the new developer Kevin Brown. “In March, we held an open house for realtors so they could familiarize themselves with the project and the view was something mentioned over and over again.”

And that view is about to get even better. Brown and Scott Frisella, who for the past five years have managed the island for Rockwood Bank but recently took over as developers of the project, are in the process of completely revamping the landscaping. They’re planting decorative trees – Magnolias, Red Sunset Maples and Cleveland Pears – along the seawall and around the buildings and grounds and they’re also removing and replacing all existing plantings, cleaning up all of the over grown brush around the sea wall and brush hogging and trimming of all the over grown areas that do not have building structures.

Brown said all the hard work already is starting to pay off.
“Prior to completion of the causeway, we’d go weeks without a showing but lately, we’ve had several showings every weekend – and people are loving what they’re seeing,” he said, adding that things are about to get even busier. “We’ll soon be launching an extensive marketing campaign for 2015 that will include a large number of local radio commercials and television commercials on the Cardinals Baseball Network in addition to print, social media and billboards. We’ll also be supporting local events like the Lake Race and Shootout. Truthfully, we just need to get people here. Isla Del Sol and the ‘Hawaiian island’ atmosphere will sell itself. Where else in the Midwest can you own a condominium on a private island and still be just a short drive down Route W and just 15 minutes from shopping, dining, entertainment and more? No place that I know of.”

Previously, the condominium project, located at the 3.5 mile mark or at 60 Knox Road in Rocky Mount, was accessible only by ferry – and that ferry had a limited operating schedule. To provide easier access and to provide quicker access for emergency vehicles, Rockwood Bank funded approximately $1.1 million for construction of the causeway. To recoup those costs, with approval of Miller County commissioners, a Community Improvement District (CID) was formed. A CID may be either a political subdivision or a not-for-profit corporation. CID’s are organized for the purpose of financing a wide range of public-use facilities and establishing and managing policies and public services relative to the needs of the district. In this case, the CID encompasses the island, the footprint of the causeway and a small sliver of land where the causeway will meet the mainland.
Under the CID, Isla Del Sol condominium owners will pay an additional $800 to $900 per year in real estate property taxes over the next 20 years to Miller County. The county will then disburse payments to the CID board, which also will establish a special reserve fund for maintenance of the causeway as well as for a portion of Knox Road leading to the causeway.

After property owners in the Frelich’s Resort subdivision, located along Knox Road, expressed concern that they would lose their existing community boat ramp if the causeway was built, Rockwood Bank also redesigned the mainland access point. The bank tore out the old ramp, which was crumbling and falling apart, and built a new 20-foot-wide ramp with concrete aprons and a community parking area. The bank also improved a portion of Knox Road as well as the circle drive that serves the subdivision. Rockwood will not be reimbursed for those costs.

Brown and Frisella, commonly referred to as “The Condo Guys,” are currently the developers at Lands’ End, Sunset Palms and Monarch Cove. They also own ProBuild Construction Services and Property Management Professionals, (PMP), which, founded in 2009, also manages seven other condo associations consisting of more than 800 homeowners.

Golfing at the Lake

There are a ton of golf courses at the Lake of the Ozarks to keep even the most avid golfer satisfied. Whether you live at the Lake or have a second home here, you most likely have an aspiration to hit the links. Isla Del Sol Condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks puts you in a private setting within short driving distance of some of the best golf at the Lake.

With courses designed by Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, Ken Kavanaugh, and Robert Trent Jones, Sr., there is a golf course to challenge every skill level. They offer all the amenities for expect from first-class facilities. Not only can you golf, but the courses offer outstanding Lake-Living recreation, attractions, shopping, and dining.

Bear Creek Valley Golf Club

Bear Creek Valley Golf Club meanders through 250 acres of colorful Ozark forest, meadows and scenic valleys along “Little Bear Creek”. The course has zoysia fairways, subtle L93 bentgrass greens and multiple tee settings, which will insure an enjoyable, yet challenging, round of golf. The facilities include a casual restaurant and lounge, which opens daily at 7 a.m., as well as, a driving range, putting green, and pro shop. Bear Creek Valley, affordable golf, casual dining and a friendly atmosphere. Tee times are accepted up to 60 days in advance. Single and family memberships are available.

The Cove at the Lodge of Four Seasons

When Harold Koplar opened The Lodge of Four Seasons in 1964, he had a vision of offering the greatest resort in the mid-west. He knew that the greatest resort would require a golf course designed by one of the greatest golf architects. He hired the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr. to design The Lodge’s signature golf course. The Cove opened in 1973 and has challenged golfers of all skill levels ever since.

With 72 bunkers, rolling hills, and water coming into play on 9 of the holes, this par-71 course is anything but tame. The four sets of tees tip out at 6,553 yards, but start at 5,172 so players of all abilities can enjoy this classic design. In typical RTJ fashion, The Cove is a target golf course putting an emphasis on getting the ball in play off of the tee.

Every golfer will leave with a memory of hole 4, our signature par-3. Whether you tee it up from the red tees at 110 yards, or let it rip from the 230 yard blue tees, it’s all carry over The Lake’s famed “Witch’s Cove”. Breathtaking views of The Lake and a classic design leave golfers wanting another shot at this legendary golf course.

The Ridge at the Lodge of the Four Seasons

Any true golf resort should offer more than 18 holes. The Lodge realized this and opened The Ridge in 1991 to offer a true golf resort experience unparalleled in the mid-west. The Cove already offered a classic design to The Lodge’s guests. The goal of The Ridge was to offer a resort style course that all players could enjoy. Golf course architect Ken Kavanaugh more than succeeded with his brilliant use of the natural terrain.

Many golfers refer to the course’s altitude drops and generous landing areas as “player-friendly”. This par-72 course offers rolling hills, natural rock outcroppings, native wildflowers, and beautiful views of The Lake. With four sets of tees ranging from 4,617 to 6,447 yards, The Ridge offers a challenging layout for golfers of all skill levels.

Hole 6 will undoubtedly leave golfers scratching their heads, wondering what they could have done better. This long, narrow hole is often referred to as the hardest par-5 in Missouri. When it’s all said and done golfers leave The Ridge with a smile, remembering a course like no other in the mid-west.

Golf Club at Deer Chase
