8 Reasons Why Lake of the Ozarks is the Best Community to Raise a Family

There are many wonderful reasons why the Lake of the Ozarks is considered to be one of the best communities to raise a family in. No matter the season, the Lake of the Ozarks provides fun activities for the whole family to enjoy. But that's not the only great aspect of Lake of the Ozarks living. Isla Del Sol features 8 reasons why you'll love living at the Lake when you own a condo at the Lake of the Ozarks!

1. Stellar School District
Isla Del Sol condominiums is located within the School of Osage district. The School of Osage is ranked as one of the top 50 K-12 school districts as one of the best districts in Missouri. It was also ranked in the top 50 as one of the safest school districts, and in the top 20 for best teachers and as best places to teach. The School of the Osage has 2 elementaries, a middle school, and a high school. The mission of School of the Osage, in partnership with our students, families, and community, is to equip all learners to meet their maximum potential for a lifetime of success.

2. Affordable Cost of Living
The Lake of the Ozarks Region has a great competitive advantage in cost of living. In 2004 (2nd qtr) the state of Missouri had the 11th lowest cost of living index in the United States at 92.7. A further breakdown shows Missouri ranking in the United States as follows: Utilities 3rd lowest; Transportation cost (gasoline) 7th lowest; Health Care 16th lowest; Housing and Grocery 18th lowest. The composite index for the Lake of the Ozarks Region is below the Missouri State average.

3. Great Healthcare
Lake Regional Health System provides comprehensive health care services to lake-area residents and visitors. The 116-bed hospital is a state-designated Level III trauma center. It is accredited by The Joint Commission and is a past recipient of the Missouri Quality Award. Cardiac care services include open-heart surgery, cardiac catheterization and cardiac rehab. Lake Regional Cancer Center offers patients chemotherapy and radiation therapy treatments in a comfortable atmosphere close to home. Lake Regional Health System also operates primary care, urgent care, specialty and rehab therapy clinics, retail pharmacies and home health services throughout the lake area.

4. Shopping Galore
The Lake of the Ozarks is home to many different retailers. In fact, it's not unusual for people to come to the Lake specifically to shop! The area has everything from a large outlet mall to small, unique boutiques. Shopping is one activity you can enjoy year-round at the Lake of the Ozarks. You'll find what you're looking for - or what you didn't know you needed - at the Lake of the Ozarks.

5. The Great Outdoors
From bluffs tops to lakeshore, there's a lot to explore at the Lake of the Ozarks! Even without the Lake, this area is a treasure with rolling hills, bluffs, forest and other unique terrain features. No matter the season, there is something enjoyable to do in the great outdoors from hiking and fishing to float trips and horseback riding.

6. A Golfers Paradise
The Lake of the Ozarks is truly a golfers paradise! The Lake area features courses designed by Arnold Palmer, Tom Weiskopf, Fred Farley, Ken Kavanaugh, Robert Trent Jones Sr., Jack Nicklaus and Von Hagge/Devlin. Some of the Lake's best golf courses are just a scenic drive down W from Isla Del Sol. Enjoy golfing on courses that feature some of the natural beauty of the Lake, such as rock bluffs, forests and water. All of this combined with the area's laid-back style is sure to make your golfing experience truly unforgettable.

7. Many Waterfront Restaurants
The Lake of the Ozarks is home to many different restaurants and bars. However, during the summer, the waterfront restaurants are the place to be! At Isla Del Sol, our waterfront condos have boat slips available! If you have a boat, you can get to your slip and be out on your way to your favorite waterfront restaurant in no time! We are contently located at the 3 MM of the north shore, so you are just a short boat trip away from some of the best waterfront restaurants at the Lake!

8. The Lake
While all of these things are what makes living or owning a second home at the Lake of the Ozarks enjoyable, the best part about owning a condo at the Lake has to be the lake itself. There are many fun activities you can enjoy on the Lake of the Ozarks from fishing to boating. In addition to the fun activities on the Lake, you can enjoy the beautiful Lake views when you own a waterfront condo at the Lake of the Ozarks. At Isla Del Sol, you are just steps away from the boat slips, which means that you can hop on your boat and enjoy everything the Lake has to offer in no time!

5 Festive Ideas to Get You in the Spirit of the Holidays

If you've visited any of the larger department stores recently, you may have already noticed the presence of the holidays starting to make their appearance. And now that Halloween is over and we're officially into the month of November, you can bet that Christmas is going to explode in the stores and all over your social media newsfeed over the next couple of weeks. You may have even noticed some of your friends already sharing holiday related GIFs expressing their excitement (or lack thereof) for the upcoming holidays. Now Isla Del Sol knows that not everyone is as ready to start putting up decorations and singing Christmas carols as the retail industry would like us to be. But for those who are, we've got 5 festive ideas to get you in the holiday spirit!

1. Bake Cookies
The holidays just wouldn’t be the same without all that holiday baking. Whether your go-to is chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin or gingerbread, baking cookies in fun holiday shapes and flavors will surely put you in the Christmas spirit. PLUS, there's not many people who can pass up a scrumptious cookie, so sharing your delicious holiday cookies with others may get them to open up to the spirit of the holidays too!

2. Get Family Photos
Now is the perfect time to start thinking about your holiday cards, especially if your cards usually consist of a family photo! So call up your favorite photographer, pick out a cute theme or color for the family to dress in, and strike a pose for this year's Christmas card! Since having professional pictures usually means there will be a lag in turnaround time, it's best to get these done sooner rather than later to ensure you've got them back in time to send them out.

3. Shop for Gifts
The earlier you start on your Christmas shopping, the less stressed you'll feel about the holidays, and the more money you're likely to save! If you're planning to go Black Friday shopping, start looking for ideas online now and making a list so you're ready. The Black Friday ads will be rolling out soon enough, so you can even come up with a plan of attack and enlist your family to shop for specific items you can check everything off your list!

4. See a Holiday Performance
Whether you splurge on a single show or make it an annual tradition, nothing puts you in high spirits quite like a holiday performance. If you are interested in the theater, check out a production of "A Christmas Carol." If you like fine arts, try "The Nutcracker" ballet. And if you are a music junkie or light show enthusiast, the "Trans-Siberian Orchestra" is a must-see (hint: they'll be in Kansas City this year!).

5. Volunteer
The holiday season is often seen as a holiday about getting, but it is also about giving. Volunteer at a local shelter or food pantry to help people in need, volunteer to be a bell ringer, or get involved with one of the local organization who hosts holiday fundraisers. Not only will it will make you more appreciative for the things that you have, but it will be more fulfilling than any item on your Christmas list. Getting the kids involved in volunteer work at a young age helps to build character and appreciation as well, so it's a great family activity!

There you have it - 5 festive ideas to help get you and your loved ones in the spirit of the holidays! Who knows? In your excitement to celebrate NOW, you may even convince those who insist on waiting until AFTER the turkey's big day to get a little excited! And just know that you're not alone in your "premature" excitement. The holiday festivities will be kicking off all over the place soon enough! If you're moving to the Lake of the Ozarks, be sure to check out all the local holiday events at www.FunLake.com, and don't forget to consider checking out the only private island condo complex at the Lake of the Ozarks for your next home. Our island has the best panoramic views for enjoying the Lake during any season!

Protect Your Boat with these 3 tips!

Owning a luxury condo at the Lake of the Ozarks means that you can enjoy all the boating opportunities the area offers.  If you own a boat, you also need to take some steps to protect your investment.  At Isla Del Sol, we have designed our Island complex to protect your boat, and at our beautiful 360-degree condominium complex, we offer slips for sale that can help prevent your boat from damage from wakes and the elements.  Here are 3 tips for protecting your boat and making your stay at the lake enjoyable throughout the year.

Choose the best slip for your boat.

Choosing a slip for your boat is some of the best protection from the water you can get. The first step is choosing a slip that can hold up your boat. You need to know the boats length, width, and weight when choosing a lift. If there are any doubts, it's probably better to over-specify than to under quote. We can accommodate nearly any size/style of boats. Our slip sizes are: 12x32, 12x36, 14x36, 14x40, and 16x40.

Securing your boat properly is important

If you are out enjoying the beautiful Lake of the Ozarks and decide to stop at one of our local water bars or need to fuel up, there are some tips to help prevent boat damage from the dock. Use two ropes on the bow of the boat, one on each side to stabilize the vessel and prevent it from swaying too far one way or the other. On the stern, use two crossed ropes, going from one side of the vessel to the other side of the slip. When tying the knot onto the slip, use a knot that can be untied quickly but won't come undone on its own, such as a proper cleat hitch knot. Remember to leave enough slack if waves strike, so that the boat can move independently of the dock, without being drug around by the rope.

Use bumpers to prevent your boat from hitting the dock.

If your boat is put away for the day or you find yourself at a busy dock for a night of dinner and entertainment, throw some bumpers on the sides of the boat. This just-in-case feature pays for itself in-case of accidents. You can't watch your boat all the time, and should the dock crew incorrectly tie your boat into the slip, it might bump or grind into the slip. Bumpers can help mitigate this damage, possibly saving you in repairs along with preventing accidental damage to the dock!

Isla Del Sol wants to protect your investment.

Our private island condominium paradise wants to make sure that your watercraft is able to stay protected. Utilize our slips to prevent your boat from being damaged. The next time you stay at the Lake's best waterfront condos, come down and look at our docks. We offer 5 different options which can contain sizes from PWCs to 40 ft. watercraft. Come to Isla Del Sol at the Lake of the Ozarks for a great view and a perfect vacation home; stay for the amazing community and private island community!

How the Ozarks got a Lake

Isla Del Sol Waterfront Condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks  is the only island condominium project in this area. To be considered an island, a piece of land must be completely surrounded by water and not large enough to be called a continent.  You probably knew that much already, but have you ever wondered how the Lake of the Ozarks got there in the first place, allowing us to build our private island escape in the middle of Missouri?

The lake was created by the construction of Bagnell Dam, which caused the Osage River to flood into surrounding valleys.  The Union Electric Company out of St. Louis, Missouri started construction in August, 1929.  Nearly two years later, in April, 1931, it was completed.  The lake reached it's spillway elevation a month later on May 20, 1931.

A few interesting facts about the building of the dam are:

  • Building Bagnell Dam was a $30 million dollar project.
  • It created 10,000 jobs, which employed 25,000 workers over the course of the project
  • Workman moved over 900 miles of fence, 32 cemetaries (2,850 graves), and the entire 500-person town of Linn Creek!!
  • During Construction the lake was called both "Osage Reservoir" and "Lake Osage."  It was officially named "Lake Benton" after former Senator Thomas Hart Benton, but it was so popularly referred to by it's location in the Ozarks that the name "Lake of the Ozarks" just stuck.

The Lake of the Ozarks is now the second largest man-made lake in Missouri. At the time of construction, it was the largest in the united states, and one of the largest in the world!

The Osage River, Niangua River, and numerous creeks and streams all contribute to the formation of the Lake of the Ozarks.  It holds over 600 billion gallons of water.  The Lake itself measure more than 90 miles in length, but has over 1,100 miles of shoreline in four different Missouri counties!

This is due to the serpentine shape of the lake, which has earned it the nickname of "The Magic Dragon."  It may take a little imagination to see the resemblance, but it's there.

A wonderful place to learn more about the history of both Bagnell Dam and the Lake of the Ozarks is at Willmore Lodge.  It is the home to the Lake Area Chamber of Commerce in addition to the Bagnell Dam History Museum, and hosts an absolutely gorgeous view of the lake.

You will find our luxury condominiums at the Lake of the Ozarks  near what would be the base of the head/ top of the neck of the "Magic Dragon" here on Google maps off of Knox Road.  You can see beautiful panoramic views of the Lake of the Ozarks from any location on our island.  Visit us today and see just why our private island paradise is just the place to make your Lake of the Ozarks home.

The Cove at the Lodge of Four Seasons

When Harold Koplar opened The Lodge of Four Seasons in 1964, he had a vision of offering the greatest resort in the mid-west. He knew that the greatest resort would require a golf course designed by one of the greatest golf architects. He hired the legendary Robert Trent Jones, Sr. to design The Lodge’s signature golf course. The Cove opened in 1973 and has challenged golfers of all skill levels ever since.

With 72 bunkers, rolling hills, and water coming into play on 9 of the holes, this par-71 course is anything but tame. The four sets of tees tip out at 6,553 yards, but start at 5,172 so players of all abilities can enjoy this classic design. In typical RTJ fashion, The Cove is a target golf course putting an emphasis on getting the ball in play off of the tee.

Every golfer will leave with a memory of hole 4, our signature par-3. Whether you tee it up from the red tees at 110 yards, or let it rip from the 230 yard blue tees, it’s all carry over The Lake’s famed “Witch’s Cove”. The Ridge at the Lodge of the Four Seasons

Golf course architect Ken Kavanaugh more than succeeded with his brilliant use of the natural terrain.

Many golfers refer to the course’s altitude drops and generous landing areas as “player-friendly”. This par-72 course offers rolling hills, natural rock outcroppings, native wildflowers, and beautiful views of The Lake. With four sets of tees ranging from 4,617 to 6,447 yards, The Ridge offers a challenging layout for golfers of all skill levels.

Hole 6 will undoubtedly leave golfers scratching their heads, wondering what they could have done better. This long, narrow hole is often referred to as the hardest par-5 in Missouri.
