Christmas Decorating Tips for Your Isla Del Sol Condo

Christmas is a beautiful time to decorate your Lake of the Ozarks' Condo living space! Christmas time presents an opportunity to decorate your interior with brilliant and flashy ornaments or even dark and earthy colors like you'd find on your Christmas tree. The most luxurious condo complex at Lake of the Ozarks has a few ideas to share when it comes to decorating your condo for this holiday season.

The Tree

Christmas is a time when most families decide to decorate a beautiful Christmas tree. Choosing how to decorate your tree is a personal venture, full of family traditions and personal flair. Do you choose a real tree or an artificial one with built-in lighting? We recommend trying to incorporate your tree's decoration into the rest of your home's winter decor - this helps draw guest's attention through your home and rest upon your beautifully crafted evergreen. If your tree is full of silver and gold ornaments, you could tie those colors into decorations found in bedrooms, on tables and resting on the mantle. Do you prefer red and green? A fun elf on the shelf or well-placed mistletoe adds a splash splashing color in any living environment.

The Mantle

Stockings hung above the fireplace are just the start - we want to use the full mantle to create a dynamic Christmas atmosphere. If you want a natural and rustic appearance, try an assortment of pine cones and long needle pine branches that flow just over the edges of the mantle. The deep green and brown colors could compliment a wreath hung just above the fireplace or some tarnished silver mantle decorations.

Table Space

Popular table decorations include plates full of unbroken walnuts, Christmas candles adorned with leafy greens or simple ornaments like small wooden sleighs. Do you prefer a Christmas full of glitter and gold? We recommend filling a glass jar with some holiday bells and placing a candle nearby to illuminate all the vibrant colors.

The best Christmas decorations aren't simply purchased and hung - they're crafted into a masterpiece found only in your living space. At the best waterfront condo complex at the Lake of the Ozarks, we're sure that by the time Christmas is over, your beautiful lakefront condo will be the topic of discussion amongst your friends and family. With your finishing touches, Christmas at Isla Del Sol transforms from a Lake of the Ozarks' paradise island condo to a winter wonderland fit for Santa himself.

Community Events in the Fall/Winter at Lake of the Ozarks

We live in a great community at the Lake of the Ozarks! Throughout the off season, there are several events happening that benefit our community and help a lot of people in the local area. If you make the lake your home year round at the best condominium complex at the Lake of the Ozarks, make sure to support these events. You’ll not only have a great time, but you will be helping people in need. Here’s a list of some upcoming events.

Gala of Trees

When: November 19-21 - The kick-off party is Thursday, November 19th at 6 PM.
Price: Tickets are $15 per person
Where: Bootleggers Sports Book and Grill

What is it: The Gala of Trees is a fundraising event in which trees are sponsored by locals businesses. These trees are decorated and put on display and auctioned off. Proceeds from the tree sales are given to the Candyland and The Idiot's Club to purchase toys for local children.

Christmas for Kids

When: December 13th - The VIP party begins at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM for general admission.
Price: $20 with an unwrapped NEW toy, or an additional $20 without toy per person
Where: Country Club Hotel
What is it: Christmas for Kids is a benefit sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Ozark Coast and local lake businesses.  Attendees bring in an unwrapped gift for the charity. The charity then creates a "toy store", sorting all the gifts by age/group/gender. If there are any areas that need more gifts, the money from the event is used to purchase more. Finally, volunteers come in and wrap all the presents. The following day the gifts are presented to the families and children in need. The proceeds all benefit underprivileged children in the Lake area and local charity groups.

Candyland

When: November 23 - December 12 - Hours are 2-6 PM weekdays and 12-5 PM weekends.
Where: Stone Crest Mall
What is it: Candyland is an event sponsored by the Lake Ozark Rotary which encourages the Lake community to generously give to underprivliged children. Local school counselors compile a list of kids, which is then given to the Rotary. A candycane is then hung for each family (400+ candycanes). Local residents can then choose a candycane that contains a list of wants/needs for the family. Once purchased, the gifts can be returned to Candyland or to the YMCA where they are wrapped and delivered to the school - given to the child by the counselor.

Living at The Lake of the Ozarks allows you to be a part of one of the most generous and helpful communities in the state. There are several charity groups to join. If you'd rather just volunteer your time, there are dozens of fundraisers to help. The Lake of the Ozark's best waterfront condominiums are proud to call such a great community home.

5 Chilly Weather Tips to Keep your Condo Toasty!

Well, despite our hopes and dreams, the weather is turning colder. While the water is still warm around Missouri's best waterfront condo's, those days are numbered. Luckily, there are several steps you can take to make your luxurious condo at Lake of the Ozarks a warm and efficient place to stay for a cool weather vacation. Who knows, maybe you want to come down and enjoy some hunting, or bargain-hunting? Let's take a look at 5 ways you can cold weather optimize your condo.

Turn the fan to clockwise

Did you know on some fan models there is a switch that will turn the blades of the fan the opposite direction? Did you know that it makes a huge impact on the temperature of the room? In the Summer you want the "wind chill" effect; air blowing down on you to help cool off. During the cooler months, the fan should rotate the opposite direction and at a low speed, to suck air up and push warm air down and out- this prevents the "wind chill" effect and provides a thin layer of an air barrier between the walls and the center of the room.

Wind Leaks

There are areas around the edges of rooms that allow air to exchange with whatever is on the other side of the wall/window. Double check the caulking and trim of all windows to make sure that the trim is still in good shape. If possible, apply a plastic window film to your windows to even further insulate the thin glass layer hiding mother nature from the interior of your home.

Use a Rug (or Two)

Waking up in the morning and putting your feet down on a wooden or bare floor is one of the worst things when the house is chilly. By throwing down a few rugs, you not only create another layer of insulation between a cold floor and the space in your condo, you also also have something comfy to walk on!

Draft Guards

Draft guards are designed to fit underneath doors to increase weather protection even further than a door would alone. These can be bought at any home improvement store. If you're in a pinch, you can make these at home by rolling a towel and placing it up against the door. Since drafts can cause anywhere from 5% to 30% of wasted energy, we highly recommend a draft guard for your front door.

About those Curtains

Simply put, curtains can keep the chill from the window at the window, or they can be opened to let heat in. A good cotton blend curtain is perfect for keeping the colder air from seeping in, while insulating the interior heat as well. It's also thin enough that it is easy to push to the side for sunlight to come in and naturally heat the room during the day.

There are easily hundreds of ideas out there when it comes to making your home more energy efficient and warmer. Fortunately, our condos at Lake of the Ozarks are efficiency optimized and ready for move in! You can apply any of the steps we've mentioned above, but you'll probably find that your paradise living space is already really efficient when it comes to keep you toasty!
