6 Questions to Ask Yourself When Considering an In-Home Office

Today, working from home has become very common with the advancement of technology. If you work from your Lake of the Ozarks' condo, you may be wondering how to effectively configure your at-home office space. Isla Del Sol Condominiums feature roomy three bedroom units, which can be ideal for finding a dedicated work space. Here are some questions to ask yourself when looking for a potential at-home office arrangement:

1. Do You Need a Private Space?
If your work requires a dedicated space that is quiet or private, you may want an area with a door and location away from the main activity of the home. An extra bedroom that is not utilized is perfect for this situation. This is also ideal if your business requires you to keep confidential information and sensitive files.

2. Can You Share?
With more couples sharing a business and working from home, finding available space for two is challenging. In this case, converting one of the bedrooms into a shared office, so you can keep the other bedroom open for guests is optimal. Small desks set up in opposite corners, and a central location for printers and other devices can save space.

3. Do You Prefer Being Around Others?
Working from home can feel isolating at times and being around others can make you feel apart of the activity. If you can remain focused and block out noise to complete your tasks, you may want a corner of the living or dining area. Even installing sufficient outlets to a covered or screened deck can be a secondary work space as the weather allows.

4. Do You Need Multiple Options?
While it is best to set a designated area for your work space, some people like to have multiple options. You may want to use a kitchen or dining room table in the morning to get your family off to school and work, and then move to a more convenient location for the rest of the day.

5. Do You Want to Write Your Office Space Off Your Taxes?
If you work from home, and it is used as your main place of business, consult a tax professional. You may be able to deduct expenses for the business use of your home. If the use of your home office is merely appropriate and helpful, you cannot deduct expenses for that purpose.

6. Is Your Bedroom a Possibility?
Modern bedrooms can often accommodate desks, bookshelves, and other office essentials. This can be effective for parents who want to work at night. Make sure you have adequate outlets near your computer station and a place for document storage.

Tips to Maximize the Space in Your Condo

Moving from a home to a condo can be a very big change. A concern you may come across when considering a condo is that you may be giving up some square footage. But don't worry about not having enough room in your condo for your belongs. If decorated effectively, you can create a beautiful and elegant look while maximizing the use your condo space. Here are some ways to increase your condo living space.

Improve the Lighting
Lighting is a key element in opening up spaces. Allowing natural light inside the room opens up the interior and makes it look larger. If you do not have a lot of natural light, you can add some creative effects using lighting fixtures. With the proper lighting, every room can be showcased. Having curtains that draw completely past the window frame exposes the room to lots of natural light. Mirrors on the wall can reflect this light without taking up extra space and increase the visual appeal of the interior.

Maximize Your Storage Space
There are dozens of places around the home to stow away unused things and cleaning supplies alike. Hanging cleaning supplies like the broom and mop up on the closet wall will allow for bigger items to sit on the ground, like seasonal decorations in a box, or hidden gifts for the holiday season. In the kitchen, hanging a spice rack on the inside of a cabinet will allow room for the wine cabinet you've always wanted but never had room for!

Downsize Your Furnishings
A cluttered floor plan can quickly take up that much needed space. Rather than trying to fit every single piece of furniture you own into your condo, select a few of your favorite pieces of furniture and get rid of the rest. For example, instead of a having a queen sized bed and full size chest of drawers in your guest bedroom, get rid of the chest and install an extra closet bar in the closet to maximize hanging potential, or consider an under the bed storage solution, to open up floor space.

Open up the Bathroom
The bathroom is a great place to add a sense of open space. Instead of a clouded glass door for the shower, swap in a curved curtain. This will give off the impression that the bathroom is much bigger than it actually is. Additionally, add some floating shelves behind the toilet for towels and other bathroom accessories to clear up some counter space.

Use Floor to Ceiling Decor
When deciding to decorate a condo, it's easy to forget everything above eye level. Hanging curtains from the ceiling and running them centered over twice the length of the window will go a long way to changing the dynamic in the room. Hang a TV with a wall mount to eliminate the need for a stand and draw attention away from the ground and up into the wall.

By using these tips when decorating your new condo, you'll quickly realize that even though you may have less square footage, you don't really lose your space. The best condos at Lake of the Ozarks offer a vast and open floor plan for you to decorate and furnish to your heart's desire. Enjoy the perfect view of the Lake in any room, or step out onto the covered terrace and see why these really are the best waterfront condos at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Super Savvy Condo Storage Solutions for YOU!

When relocating to the Lake of the Ozarks, one of the choices you'll need to make is whether to live in a home or a condo. For many reasons, the benefits of condo living at the Lake of the Ozarks far outweigh the benefits of owning a home. But of course, there's always that lingering concern about lack of square footage. However less square footage doesn't necessarily mean you have to make do with less. It just means you'll have to be creative with your space. Isla Del Sol has come up with some super smart space saving ways to organize your luxury condo at the Lake of the Ozarks. Check it out!

Let your storage solution define your space.

Use a simple open shelving unit to create a break in a large open space. While this will definitely provide a huge amount of storage, it will also serve to create division between rooms.

Choose hideaway storage that doubles in function.

Select stylish storage ottomans as part of your decor to hide things in. Tuck them neatly under a floating shelf when not in use. This is a great solution for seating when you need it and out of the way when you don't.

Take advantage of that seemingly unusable space in the bathroom.

If your dedicated storage for towels and other toiletries is limited, consider adding a piece of storage furniture to you bathroom. Many bathrooms have some unused space around the sink and toilet that can be maximized by the addition of a piece of furniture that has both open and closed storage area.

Embrace decorative storage opportunities.

If you love books you know that finding room for all of your beloved tomes can become a challenge. Luckily, books are also awesomely attractive. With a little styling magic, a shelf or two worth of books can add some welcome visual interest to an unused fireplace. Or you can re-purpose two basic standalone bookshelves as a headboard.

Squeeze some creative juice into your kitchen storage.

It may not seem like it, but you can do a lot with creative storage in the kitchen. Use tension rods to hang cleaning supplies under the sink. Turn the side of your refrigerator into a spice rack. Create your own DIY canned food organizer in your pantry with wire closet racks. Install a railing system underneath your cabinets to hold baskets for various kitchen items.

With these amazing storage solutions, you'll find that condo living at the Lake of the Ozarks is the perfect choice for you! So what are you waiting for? 7 Tips for Making Small Spaces Feel Bigger

Isla Del Sol’s luxury condo units are between 1,300 and 1,440 square feet. These surprisingly spacious areas will still be an adjustment if you are used to living in a home. Small areas don’t have to be overcrowded with your furniture and other items, though.  The following tip and tricks can help you make the most of your small spaces:

1. Leave Space

Having your furniture flush against the wall will not make the room feel bigger. If you leave space between furniture, it will give the appearance of more space. Whether it's angling the bed or moving the sofa father away from the wall, it can help give the space more room. If you want to utilize the space between the wall and couch, try placing a small skinny table between the two and use it for more storage space.

2. Be Mindful of Color

Darker colors will make the room appear smaller. Lighter colors, such as white, cream, pale gray and blues, will keep the area lighter and more open.  Lighter colored floors will also help create the sense of more space, so keep area rugs neutral colors.

3. Draw the Eyes Up

Having a pop of color on the ceilings is a good way to make your room seem taller. Anything that draws the eye up will help with creating depth. If you do not want to color your ceilings, having a nice design or even a beautiful chandelier will help.

4. Multiuse Pieces

Furniture that has more than one use is a simple way to get the most out of any room. Ottomans with built-in storage space are great for hiding away blankets or other items that could clutter a room.

5. Leave Windows Bare

Drapes can make a room seem dark and confined. More light gives a room depth. Plus, if you leave your windows bare you will be able to see the beautiful views of the lake. If you are worried about privacy, sheet white drapes will cover your windows without the need of heavy curtains.

6. Use Stripes

Stripes will help make a room appear longer. Position the stripes to go the length of the wall that is the longest for the best results.

7. Get Organized

Arrange the items on your bookshelf and tables by height and color. This will give your un-organized mess some structure. Having your items intentionally arranged will make the room more streamlined. This trick works for books or essentially anything that is visible in your home.

5 Clever Ways to Maximize Space in Your Condo

In every condo there is a need to maximize space, whether it is a studio or the whole top floor with 5 bedrooms. Maximizing space allows your house to seem more organized, spacious and welcoming. When looking for condos for sale at the Lake of the Ozarks or looking to maximize the space you already own, follow these tips to make the most of your condo.

1. Maximizing Your Entryway

As the first area that you welcome your guests into your condo, the entryway is often the most cluttered by shoes, coats and children's backpacks. Simple organization and a few additions can make a major difference between clutter and opening up your entryway. You can maximize space by adding a storage bench; this is a good place to store shoes and backpacks, as well as other things that need a place close to the door. Top that off with a wall mounted coat rack, a few shelves for pictures and a mirror for a great accented look. Now you have a beautiful entryway that reflects the open theme of your condo.

2. Opening Up Your Family Room and Living Room

Do you ever find yourself cleaning the family room and living room more often than most other rooms in the house? As a central hub of entertainment and relaxation for most families, it can be difficult at times to keep out the mess and clutter. When looking to maximize these areas, it is best to find multi-functioning furniture. Invest in a coffee table with bottom open shelving, and drawers for magazines and normal table clutter. T.V. stands with drawers and cabinets are great for storing movies and games in a neat way. Additionally, adding a few nice accent end tables with open sides or cabinet doors will give your living areas extra storage room, creating a beautiful spacious look.

3. Bathroom Storage

The bathroom is probably the most rushed in and out of room in your home. This area is also typically one of the most cluttered rooms due to it's size and contents. For a bathroom, a little more organization can go a long way. Putting baskets under the sink and behind doors can be useful for storing small electrical appliances, such as electric razors and curling irons, when not in use. For more space options, buy a plastic shoe organizer, cut it into three or four sections and attach them on the inside of doors or inside sink cabinets. A ring holder with a round base that matches your bathroom is great for your hair ties and bobby pins. These tips will create a more open and uncluttered look and feel to the smallest room in your condo.

4. Organize That Kitchen

Your kitchen can be one of the busiest rooms in your condo. The kitchen must be functional, easy to move around in and sanitary, as well as a pleasurable place to cook meals. Cabinets and shelving can be used up pretty quickly by dishes, pots and pans. Getting a good hanging rack for your pots and pans not only opens up space, but it gives your kitchen a look of a real cooking aficionado. Count how many people are in your home and have that many plates, bowls, cups and silverware; the rest can be stored in a box in a designated storage area out of the way until guests are expected. When it comes to canned food or cabinet food, try to think of it like your refrigerator, if it has a date and it is past that, throw it out to make room for something else. Lastly spread out appliances so that everything is not all together. This should give you a great spacious look that has way more functionality and is less cluttered.

5. Get the Most out of Your Bedroom

Your bedroom is your sanctuary, a place of comfort and relaxation where you can go to sleep and wake up everyday to a fresh start. Having a clean and spacious bedroom will maximize your relaxation and comfort in every bedroom in your condo. Having a few flat bins are great for storing out of season clothes under the bed, especially when first sealed with a clothing vac sealer. Utilizing closet organizers to separate clothing, shoes, ties, scarfs and more will yield more functionality to your closet. Get a nice stand up hamper with a lid that matches the theme of your bedroom. Be sure to go through your clothes seasonally to see if they are getting old and faded or aren't fitting right anymore. Take any clothes you don't want or cannot wear anymore, add the other clutter you've been cleaning out and start a yard sale. As an alternative, you can go down to your area's local goodwill and donate for a great cause. Now you can relax in a clean and organized room that matches the beautiful, spacious theme throughout your condo.
