Incorporating Color Into Your Home Decor

Part of the thrill of buying a luxury condominium at the Lake of the Ozarks is planning out the remodel! There are so many ways you can show off your style and make your condo feel cozy and inviting. This week, Isla Del Sol has some great tips to help you add color to your home decor to best showcase your personality - check it out!

Go with Grays

Gray presents itself as the perfect backdrop to any style from classic to modern to contemporary. Gray's chameleon-like quality allows the color to appear either warm or cool and pair beautifully with all sorts of colors from pinks, blues, purples, and citrus pair delightfully with this new neutral. Plus, all furniture styles look well with it. With all shades from nearly white to nearly black, there’s a shade of grey certain to please everyone’s palate.

Use the 60-30-10 Rule

For the most balanced, appealing look in your decor, you should choose a three-color palette for decorating a room, and use the 60-30-10 rule. Decorate 60% of the room with the dominant color. Decorate 30% of the room with the secondary color. Use the remaining color as an accent in 10% of the space. You don't have to follow this exactly, so don't feel required to break out the calculator and measuring tape. Just follow the basic idea.

Contrast Warm and Cool

When dealing with warm and cool colors it's important to remember that no room should have just one. If you want your room to be cozy, use warm colors for the dominant scheme and add a few elements that incorporate cool colors (and vice versa). As with all elements of decorating it's important to have some balance and contrast.

Pick Colors from Furnishings

Consider the mood you want to set in the room you're decorating. Then, if you've got patterned upholstery, a colorful rug or large piece of artwork, pluck colors you like from the pattern that create the vibe you're trying to evoke. For a neutral wall paint color, look to the pattern's whites and beiges. If choosing a wall color from your artwork, go one or two shades lighter to ensure the art will pop. To add more dimension to your color scheme, incorporate different textures.

Use the Color Wheel

The color wheel is an essential decorating tool as long as you know how to use it. Going monochromatic with tone-on-tone color can result in a really sophisticated, edited look. Start with a color you really love and mix varying shades, from light to dark. A popular analogous color combination, and one we particularly love, is blue and green. Or you can choose two complementary colors creates an energizing, high-contrast color scheme. Feeling adventurous? A triad color scheme is made up of any three colors evenly spaced on the wheel.

With these 5 tips for incorporating color into your home decor, you'll be well on your way to creating a beautiful and personable design for your luxury waterfront condo at the Lake of the Ozarks! So break out the color wheel, visit your local home improvement store, and get geared up to make some colorful changes this summer at Isla Del Sol!
