Spring Activities at the Lake of the Ozarks

Spring is in the air! The trees and flower are in bloom, the weather is getting warmer and boats are hitting the water. If you're itching for a trip to your luxury, waterfront condo at the Lake of the Ozarks, here are a few activities you can enjoy this season.

Spring into Fishing 

The Lake of the Ozarks is known for having some of the best fishing in the Midwest. The Lake is loaded with a variety of species including largemouth bass, hybrid stripers, paddlefish, walleye and bluegill. Bass and crappie are the two most popular species for spring fishing. However, with the increasing water temperatures, it starts to make all the fish more active.

Fun At The State Parks

The weather begins to warm up a bit during the spring at the Lake of the Ozarks. Go outside and enjoy the beautiful weather at the gorgeous Lake of the Ozarks state parks. The Lake area is home to two parks: Lake of the Ozarks State Parks and Ha Ha Tonka State Parks. 5 Free Activities at the Lake of the Ozarks!

Lake of the Ozarks has so many different fun activities for you and your family to enjoy. You don’t need to spend a lot of money to have an exciting day at the Lake. There are many activities you can do that are free – and who doesn’t love that?! When you own a second home at the Lake of the Ozarks, you can enjoy these free activities whenever you want. If you are looking for a fun day activity, keep these five attractions in mind:

1. Lake of the Ozarks State Parks


Do you want to spend the day splashing in the water? This state park has two public beaches for families to spend time together. Perhaps you want to go on a hike or go mountain biking? Well you’re in luck – the Lake of the Ozarks State Park has it all! This park has thousands of wooded acres with 12 trails that wind throughout the park. Spend the weekend camping for a small fee and explore all that Lake of the Ozarks State Park has to offer! 2. Ha Ha Tonka State Park


Ha Ha Tonka State Park is one of Missouri’s most unique destinations, with its beautiful views and impressive architecture. This park is home to a castle that was built by a Kansas City businessman. Take the day and explore the castle ruins or walk the more than 15 miles of trails that go through the park, leading hikers to sinkholes, natural brides, caves and down to the lake. 3. Willmore Lodge


Located just northeast of Bagnell Dam, Willmore Lodge is home to the dam’s history museum. Visit the museum Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to learn about the history of the Lake area and Willmore Lodge. 4. Bagnell Dam Overlook


Just a ½ mile north of Bagnell Dam is the overlook. Here you can view the Lake of the Ozarks and Bagnell Dam from a new perspective. There are displays about the lake and the dam, as well as a picture from that same location from before the dam was built. In addition, Ameren Missouri has created a fish and bird observation area below the dam for visitors to get up close to local wildlife.

5. Thunder Mountain Conservation Area


Thunder Mountain Park is a great area to spend the day outdoors. In the middle of Thunder Mountain Park is a conservation area that includes a visitor center, a nature trail, archery lanes, a picnic area and a 100-foot tall fire tower that has a viewing platform at 80-feet.
